Brighton's Street-art is Alive!

Updated: Jan 6

Brighton is the living Gallery of Street art and Graffiti.

Hi, I’m Balazs Rojik hobby photographer, from Suncity Szeged, Hungary. Now based in Brighton discovering its hidden treasures.

Brighton is a city on the south coast of the UK where the streets and buildings are decorated with quality arts and graffiti. You just can’t miss it. If you open your eyes and look around, Brighton can show you the most beautiful places, pictures, and artworks on its walls.

To find nice graffiti, or picture is easy in Brighton. It’s everywhere. And there is a special moment when the sun shines in that little ally, only one time a day, for a couple of minutes, in that season, and then it shows the picture in its full glory. I’m chasing these moments.

For me, Brighton is a living organism, constantly changing massive artwork. Every wall I see is a possible canvas waiting for the artists to fill them with paint creating incredible things. It’s hard to describe. A wide variety of artworks can be found in Brighton.

From a small little picture - the size of a window - you can find houses, alleys decorated all around with graffiti, characters, and pictures of any kind. It makes you feel, you are part of the artwork surrounded by these characters and walking in an open comic book.

Most of Brighton's street art can be found on popular streets, alleys connecting the busy main roads. People in love with urban art take the time to discover these places. And the audience is not just the graffiti writers and urban art connoisseurs.

Tourists browse these paintings, taking photos of them, taking selfies. And this is the heart of the city. Next to main roads, busy streets, classic graffiti can be found, it’s amazing, isn’t it?

Stencils, characters, stickers, everything you could imagine.

Going outside into the crowd there are also nice paintings. There is mutual respect between the graffiti writers, they don’t cover others' work unless it is already ruined or damaged. By law, Graffiti is illegal, but there are legal walls, where people can show how talented they are. Or people go to a bit outside hidden places to try themselves.

There is also special hidden graffiti, which can only be seen when the shops are closed. There is quite a lot of this graffiti.
