The Devil Wears Prada 2: A Good Ending to the First

Firstly, it should have been The Devil Wears Prada Too - why miss out on something so awesome and easy? The whole movie is a way to show that all the key characters of the 2006 movie have landed on their feet and may or may not share a somewhat happy ending together.

A close friend of mine has said that happy endings are not a real thing. This is particularly applicable to anyone going to the theater to watch this movie.

The ( Lack of a ) Plot in The Devil Wears Prada 2

The first movie, which is an adaptation of the book of the same name by Lauren Weisberger, is a great watch; the second one - not so much. Basically, the lead characters from the first movie meet and all work together on something in some capacity - that's it!

There are no shocking plot twists or unusual plot devices in the movie, but there are a lot of heart-warming moments with the lead characters showing actual affection towards each other.

The movie makers could have used the plotlines in the second book in the series, Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns ( 2013 ), which is a lot more interesting and feels a lot less like fan service. But as a movie fan, you get what you get, and you don't get upset.

Apart from the key leads in the movie, every other cast member blends into the background, which really doesn't make this better or worse since the plot is basically a one-liner. There is a really dated reference to how print media is dead, and that work culture cannot be overtly hostile and toxic these days. Apart from that, it's basically a long ending to the first movie.

Cast

Andrea Sachs, played by Anne Hathaway, and Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton and the infamous Devil herself, Miranda Priestly, played to perfection by Meryl Streep, all reprise their role in this 2 hour ending to the first movie.

Stanley Tucci is great as Nigel, although his battle with cancer does come across on screen as a slight difference in speech patterns ( which I'm sure is temporary )

Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B. J. Novak, Kenneth Branagh, and Simone Ashley all have the screen time of a cameo and about a tenth of the impact on the plot of the movie.

Soundtrack

Should You Watch It? On OTT Maybe, Theaters? Naw

Sitting for two hours in the theater for virtually no new plot points will be disappointing at the least, and infuriating at the worst. So I would recommend you wait for this movie to be streamed on an OTT service for you to watch it on an idle weekend.
