Die-Hard for kids as stated by Charles Boyle (played by Joe Lo Truglio) in Brooklyn Nine-Nine - Home Alone is the perfect family movie to curl up with over the holidays.
Home Alone is the movie that made Macaulay Culkin famous, and for good reason. The kid actor lived out every child's dream - to be in charge of his house (hold) and do everything that an adult does, minus the adult supervision.
Joe Pesci and Daniel Stern turn in amazing performances as the bumbling burglars who face the wrath of an extremely creative kid trying to protect his home from theft. The movie is a Tom and Jerry cartoon come to life with great practical effects, an amazing background score, and a simple and compelling plot.

In case you want to be Kevin Macallister for a day you can actually rent the Home Alone house for a night and finally fulfill your childhood fantasy.
Sheer coincidence led me to watch "Jingle All The Way" in a theater with my dad - a movie where a father tries to make Christmas special for his son. It is a joy to see Arnold Schwarzenegger flex his comedic muscles in this slapstick Christmas movie.
Arnold goes on an epic quest through various parts of his city to find the perfect toy for his son. Lots of cartoonish humor, comical fights, and a strong focus on family tend to make this movie great to watch over the holidays.
The comedian Sinbad plays the Big Bad to Arnold's desperate dad character and amplifies the comedy quite a bit. There's also Rita Wilson playing Arnold's wife and Phil Hartman playing a douchey version of Ned Flanders ( The Simpsons ).
A worthy addition to the Top 5 Christmas Movies, the best live-action version of The Grinch tale is super funny due to Jim Carrey's excellent performance. The cute dog only adds to the comedy and makes things that much funnier.
Carrey's performance is brilliant in this movie based on the classic character called the Grinch who thirsts for revenge against the citizens of Whoville for mocking him.
When trying to wreak havoc on Whoville's Christmas celebrations, the Grinch is inevitably overcome by the spirit of the ongoing festivities and has his heart grow three sizes as the story goes.

What you have to look forward to in this Jim Carrey classic is a performance that only he can pull off like he did in "The Mask." My favorite moments in the movie ( if not the whole movie itself) are:

Will Ferrell's roles in movies have mostly been characters that were so obnoxious and over-the-top, that it was hilarious. Chazz Reinhold in Wedding Crashers, Jacobim Mugatu in Zoolander, and Ron Burgundy in Anchorman were some of these roles that are funny enough to make you fall off your chair.
Elf sees Ferrell play the role of the painfully earnest elf named Buddy who annoys the hell out of anyone he meets, yet earns a place in their hearts forever. It has Ferrell's brand of ridiculous situational comedy with a lot of wholesome Christmas goodness.
There is this clip of a dad dressing up as Buddy and pulling off the exact same antics as Ferrell with nearly the same level of enthusiasm and earnestness. Just what the world needs in these times of uncertainty and darkness.

The most risqué of the lot, this installment of the Harold and Kumar franchise makes saving Christmas the whole theme of the movie. As expected, Kumar messes up Harold's near-perfect life, with the movie being more on the nose than usual, with the plot revolving around a Christmas tree.
