While Tom Cruise has Top Gun: Maverick, which honored the original with an amazing sequel, Adam Sandler's Comedic Top Gun, Happy Gilmore 2, is here for everyone to enjoy, and it's even on streaming, although it might have fared well in the theaters.

TMJ Rating: 🍿🍿🍿🍿/5
The Plot
The story is pretty simple: Happy Gilmore killed his wife with a gold shot and is now dealing with a mess of sons and a wonderful daughter. Since his daughter has a talent for ballet, is is selected for a ballet school in Paris, he needs to finance those classes with some classic Gilmore Golf.

On the way to get back on the golf horse, he comes across some veteran golfers, a yuppie golf entrepreneur who wants to make golf more exciting, and ridiculous. On the way to relearning golf, he enlists the help of his late great mentors, Chubbs' son Slim Peterson, to help with difficult shots and refined putts.
The beauty of Sandler movies is that there are no spoilers as such - no matter how many details you learn beforehand, you will still watch the movie and have the same amount of fun. This is a return to basics for Sandler after cutting his horrendous fake teeth on Uncut Gems and the Delightful Johan Renck space flick Spaceman.
The Cast of Happy Gilmore 2
Usually, the plot of any Adam Sandler movie IS the cast, but the cameos in this movie are way too many to keep track of, but are thoroughly enjoyable nevertheless.
Adam Sandler as Happy Gilmore anchors the entire movie, as with most of his movies, but gives plenty of screentime to the other actors ( cumulatively ) as well.
Julie Bowen as Virginia Venit has a few graceful ghost appearances along with a few flashbacks. Also, watching the movie reminds you of the Sandman's Hubie Halloween which was made out of partial spite when Uncut Gems was snubbed at the Oscars. Still, Hubie Halloween was so bad that it was good, along with a few terrible, yet enjoyable jokes.
Eric André and Margaret Qualley play amateur golfers who witness the second coming of The Sandman, missing every single drive and putt until he reveals himself to be the infamous Gilmore of yesteryear.

Sunny Sandler as Vienna Gilmore and Sadie Sandler give great performances as his daughter and a fellow alcoholics anonymous member. Adam Sandler reserves a special moment with each of his real-life daughters in the movie, which comes off as organic and well-earned. Jackie Sandler, who is in most, if not all, of Sandler's movies, makes an appearance in this movie as the daughter's ballet teacher.

Bad Bunny as Oscar Mejías is probably trying his hand at comedy for the first time, and it shows. His action role in Bullet Train was pretty awesome, showcasing his dramatic and action chops with great ease. Although Adam Sandler ensures that Bad Bunny's awkwardness is part of the movie's plot.
Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin is someone I never expected to return, but I'm sure everyone who watches this movie will be so glad he did, as his fictional hate toward Gilmore has just compounded over time and is freakin hilarious.
Ben Stiller as Hal L. ( is it meant to sound like Kal El? ) has one of the smallest cameos in the movie, but he doesn't miss a beat as the comedically evil, self-centered old-age home caretaker. It is one of those time travel moments, like seeing Leonard Nimoy as old Spock in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek 2009 movie. It is like he never made Severance, and he is still that literal mustache-twirling villain. You might also remember him as an orderly in Adam Sandler's intentional bomb, Hubie Halloween.
Travis Kelce plays a jerky waiter in this movie and makes the most of the little screentime he is given, making him the perfect person to cast in over-the-top jerk roles in Ben Stiller's comedic movies as well.

John Daly, the famous golfer, lives with Danler in this universe, with Gilmore even telling his kids, " Don't forget to feed John Daly twice a day," as if he's a pet such as a golfish or a pup.
Ethan Cutkosky from the popular series Shameless, and an American professional wrestler and actor, Maxwell Jacob Friedman, are some of Gilmore's kids.

There is also a laundry list of accomplished golfers who show up in this movie, including but possibly not limited to Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Bryson DeChambeau.
Sandler Fights
One of the hallmarks of any Sandler movie is comedically over-the-top violence between Sandler and the cast and between the cast members themselves. You see the caddie that Gilmore strangled in Happy Gilmore passing on the gift to his own caddie as a means of venting his golfing frustration. Some of the audience might call it unresolved trauma, but it's a movie so chill out.
The other notable fight is between Shooter McGavin and Gilmore in the cemetery, no less, where his wife and members of the first movie's cast are buried all together. McGavin doesn't hold back with tackling and full-on punches, with Gilmore getting in a few good hits himself.

You also see Gilmore's over-amped sons take offense at the smallest slight, leading them to pounce on any unsuspecting sane people.

Then there are the cameos from Post Malone to Eminem, carrying the torch of unhinged characters from the first movie hilariously into the sequel.
Should You Watch It? If you like laughing - Yes
Happy Gilmore 2 is a worthy successor to the madness-filled Happy Gilmore that started it all. It is not clever by any stretch of the imagination, but it is filled with silly laughs, comedic violence, and cameos that keep piling on until you lose track. Watch It!
