Spider-Man: Brand New Day Movie -Stunning Action, Forgettable Story

The MCU is so sloppy with its movies these days that the shocking thing isn't Marvel's take on things, but the audience that keeps accepting this oatmeal porridge of a plot per movie. Here is a review of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, what it has to offer, and why you can just wait for the OTT drop.
What is Spider-Man: Brand New Day About?
Peter Parker helps the Department of Damage Control ( DODC ) protect itself against a specifically mysterious and powerful threat, and things are shady and not as they seem on the surface. That's it, that's the plot. But if you want the details of this pathetic excuse for a plot, you can read on.
Tom Holland's Peter Parker has settled into a routine helping law enforcement in Manhattan, running a mobile command center to detect and pursue the capture of criminals and the prevention of crime.
The world is still under Dr. Strange's spell, which made the whole world forget who he was, including Zendaya's MJ and Jacob Batalon's Ned.
He is on good terms with the Department of Damage Control ( DODC ), and when consistent attacks take place on DODC HQ, Peter finds things don't add up and that there is a powerful force/person trying to break into the DODC to access something. Over the course of the movie, he discovers what or who the threat is, while the mounting stress triggers the spider half of him to cause physiological changes that amp up his superhero abilities with a lack of control. The length of the movie is spent with Peter trying to reconcile his human and spider parts of his physiology while uncovering something shady going on at DODC and an Avengers-level threat.
What makes the movie worth watching?
The CGI and practical effects, along with the fight sequences, look spectacular.
Slow-motion fight sequences to show Peter's Spidey sense are genuinely done well, and this is hard in the best of times.
You see a whole bunch of new villains ( for however short a duration ) in a fantastic way, from the green rage Hulk, Scorpion, to Tombstone. There is significant screen time for Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle. The plot is simple and easy to follow. That's where everything good about it ends, because it is a paint-by-numbers plot. Why Brand New Day is Disappointing
There is no grand mystery being solved, no original execution of the infinite comic storylines available as a source for plotlines.
You can guess the plot half an hour before it actually plays out on screen, and it is not even entertaining to watch by the time it is shown on screen. The sheer predictability of the whole thing dampens your viewing by a lot! Also, this isn't a standalone movie that can be exciting, but a long chain of mid-to mind-numbing movies ( Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ) that act as another vanilla domino that will fall to reveal the next Avengers event movie, in this case, Avengers Doomsday.
Jon Bernthal's Frank Castle has a pitiful role as a half-mentor for a pico second on screen. His presence is merely cosmetic and adds no significant heft to the movie and is easily replaceable apart from the main three characters, like every other person in this non-epic.
Mark Ruffalo's Hulk has impressive CGI but no relevance or necessity in the movie. Brand New Day would be the very same movie if his character in the movie was replaced by anyone, including the janitor from Scrubs.
Sadie Sink's character has been Disneyfied beyond repair in this movie while looking pretty in a basic and highly predictable role.
Tramell Tillman's cardboard cutout role is worse than the characters on Dexter's Lab cartoon. After his impressive meaty role on one of the best sci-fi series ( Severance ) to be released on OTT, this inconsequential role is throwaway at best.
Should You Watch This? Skip Theaters, Wait for OTT
At this point, the MCU is not even hiding the fact that all movies are basically feeder cinema for the Avengers Movies.
Considering the $225 million budget, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has the most basic of plots and a surplus of characters, beautiful CGI, and practical effects.
Wait for the OTT drop and save your money if you like decent cinema. ( even by Marvel's standards)
